Big trouble for speeding Lukyanuk

Stewards at Rally Liepaja increased the Euro 5000 penalty imposed earlier by the Clerk of the Course on Russian driver, Alexey Lukyanuk, for speeding offences.

Lukyanuk was timed in a town doing 124.9km/h and then out of a town at 168.5km/h.

He has been ordered to spend 10 days performing “some work of public interest related to road safety”.

Both the crews and their entrant (Santeloc Junior Team) will lose their championship points from this event if they are reported during the rest of the season for any infringement on public roads on an ERC event.

No sporting penalty was imposed, so Lukyanuk retains his second place on this event.

Luyanuk said the offences happened after he had a brake problem which the crew had to fix.
