Rally of the Bay organisers will be counting their lucky stars with today's news that the border between NSW and Victoria will close from midnight Tuesday.
Many Victorian competitors and service crew members travelled to Batemans Bay for the Rally of the Bay last weekend – something that wouldn't have been possible had the rally been held a week later.
The border will be closed tomorrow night after talks between Ms Berejiklian, Victoria’s Premier Daniel Andrews and Prime Minister Scott Morrison.
“Today and tomorrow is the last time in which any Victorians will be allowed across the border unless they have a special permit or some exemption,” Ms Berejiklian told reporters today.
At this stage it is not known how long the border will remain closed, and if it will impact other rallies in the coming months.
The first round of the Australian Rally Championship is not scheduled until late September in Canberra.
