The Brakes Direct Border Ranges Rally has attracted a class 51 car field of both Classics and Moderns for what looks to be a real battle over the shire roads surrounding Kyogle NSW. Clerk of the Course Stephen Davies predicts an upset. “On these roads the top two wheel Classics are capable of taking it to the 4WD crews, so an upset is easily on the cards for outright honours,” says Davies. The East Coast Classic Series is headed by the likes of Neal Bates and Clay Badenoch (Toyotas), Mal Keough (Quattro), Tom Dermody, Derek Ayson from NZ (Ford Escorts) to name just a few. The top teams from both the MTA NSWRC and the P3 Solutions QRC are also entered in their respective Championships. There are battles with the main battle of course with so many categories and classes on offer. And the mix of cars is interesting. Do not underestimate the Hyundai Excel crews on these roads. There are some very quick drivers eager to show their supremacy. Crews are seeded all the way down the field so the Classics will be mixed with the Moderns. This means there is a viewing feast for all interests Smoothline Stage Notes are available as this is a pace noted event. However a detailed road book is available for those “just coming to have fun”.
