The organisers of this weekend’s SR Automotive Manumbar Rally in Queensland have taken the decision to postpone the rally due to heavy rain expected after Cyclone Debbie.

The event is a round of the MRF Tyres Queensland Rally Championship.

In a statement, Clerk of Course, Simon Knowles, said:

“Consulting the SES and other local authorities this morning, the area is predicted to receive 150+mm of rain over the next few days. The SES have been advised to open their incident centre tomorrow in preparation for possible flooding in the area. The SES man a Council road closure for the rally and they have advised that they cannot confirm their availability to perform that role.

“We have to consider the safety of competitors, officials, support crews and locals in the area and this was the highest priority in making this decision.

“We’ll consult QLD Rally Panel, Manumbar Campdraft Association and other interested parties to determine a future date for the event in 2017,” Knowles said.
