The date for 2013 Rally of Otago has been moved forward a week, with the event now to be held from April 5 to 7.

The change of date became necessary after the recent release of the V8 Supercar calendar, which saw the NZ round of the series clash with the opening round of the 2013 New Zealand Rally Championship.

Rally of Otago spokesman, Roger Oakley, said that the potential clash of dates was problematic.

“In essence we have bowed to the inevitable and moved our date forward a week,” Oakley said.

“A clash with the Pukekohe round of the V8 Supercars would have caused too many conflicts for the motorsport media, service crews and competitors who were keen to attend both events.”

Oakley said that moving the event forward a week was the best option, and that the organising team were moving ahead with plans for the 2013 rally.

Planning for the event is well underway, and route details will be announced in the coming weeks.
