The event is the final round of the 2010 Australian Rally Championship, and will see Dowel and Lee pushing for victory over the challenging gravel stages around Noojee and Powelltown, to the east of Melbourne.
Fresh from their victory in the previous round of the Victorian Rally Championship, Dowel is keen to do well in Rally Victoria.
“This is the first time that Victoria has hosted a round of the national championship since 2007, and being our home event we’re really keen to do well,” Dowel said.
“In 2007, as triple Victorian Champions, but as an inexperienced ARC crew, we were the surprise packet, finishing fifth outright.
“Since then we’ve had three full seasons in the ARC and we’re now considered one of the favourites for our home event.
“As usual the competition will be really tough, and with wet weather predicted this weekend the rally is certain to be one of the toughest of the season,” he added.
“But we’ve prepared well and we hope that we can give our loyal sponsors and supporters something to cheer about by finishing on the podium.”
Dowel and Lee have been seeded third this weekend, their highest ever ARC seeding, and with the car fully rebuilt prior to the victory in the Akademos Rally, and with a tested package leading into the rally, they’re ready for a big push.
Rally Victoria will start on Friday afternoon with four special stages, before crews tackle a further 11 stages on Saturday. Over 216 competitive kilometres of stages awaits the crews.
Friday’s stages are expected to be warm and dry, but wet conditions on Saturday will really challenge competitors.
