Evans recorded his third consecutive round win at Queensland to wrap up his latest title and become the only driver in the history of the ARC to win a championship in every make of Group N rally car.
The 2011 championship represents an historic milestone for Evans, with his fourth title seeing him join greats Ross Dunkerton, Possum Bourne and Neal Bates as the only drivers to have racked up four or more titles.
Evans and his co-driver wife Sue could not have hoped for a more fitting location to celebrate their success with the final round of the 2010 series, Rally Victoria, being held on roads surrounding the town of Warragul, 100km east of Melbourne – and just a stone’s throw from the champions’ home in Nar Nar Goon.
The dominant combination of the last half decade of Australian rallying will be looking to finish off the season in style on home gravel.
“Rally Victoria has always been my favourite event,” said Simon.
“I won my first ARC round at the Victorian event, I wrapped up my first championship in Victoria – I also had a rollover on the final stage one year but I prefer to forget about that.
“With the event moving even closer to our family home this year, there is even more reason for it to be at the top of my list.
“It definitely adds extra incentive for me – especially with the championship already being over.
“Just having all of our friends and family at the event makes it really special because it means we can celebrate the season with them – we should have a pretty big cheer squad out on the stages.”
As for the event itself, Evans is confident that the Tankformers Subaru crew will be up to the task again.
“These are roads I have been driving on since I started my first car up, and we have gotten the Subaru to a point now where it is very strong.
“I’m just looking forward to getting out in the car and going rallying again – it feels like a lifetime since the last event.”
Rally Victoria will be held in the Baw Baw Shire around the town of Warragul on 12-13 November, 2010.
