DustTrails, Episode 12: Round Australia with Dunko

Ross Dunkerton was a three-time Australian Rally Champion, but was without a drive for the 1979 Round Australia Trial until Volvo came along – it was a partnership that created many amazing stories.

Dunkerton chats to RallySport Magazine’s Peter Whitten about the famous event in 1979 and explained how they managed to get through all the challenges, and finish the event with a fine position.

He speaks about leaving his co-driver behind, asking a fellow champion river for a lift and stealing a control official’s mag wheel.

A story also is discussed about his time on the same event with Holden several years later, where ‘Dunko’ believes he threw away a strong result.
