Two of the top seeded teams in the 2008 NZ Silver Fern International Marathon Rally have experienced dramas just days before the event begins with a rally show in Christchurch’s Cathedral Square on the afternoon of Wednesday 15th.

No 1 seed, Brian Stokes, has had a gearbox failure in pre-event testing in his brand new Ford Escort MKII. Stokes said, “We subsequently diagnosed it to be a clutch selector issue and it has now been resolved and repaired.”

Not quite so well off is Garry Adcock, whose new BMW M3 CSL was involved in a crash while testing in the Nelson Forests. The front half of the car has had to be re-jigged, but Garry reported that, “The main chassis is still straight, now all we have to do is put the engine back in, add all the suspension, replace the panels and get it re-painted.”

His dedicated team have been burning the midnight oil since last week's crash, and the car is expected to go to the paint shop tonight, before final fitting of the cosmetic parts. Garry has informed organisers, “Disappointingly, we may not make the pre-event rally show, but the car will definitely be ready to start the event proper on Thursday morning.”

The October 16 - 23 event, will start in Christchurch’s Cathedral Square, and take competitors south to Queenstown, Dunedin, and Invercargill, back to Dunedin, Timaru and Christchurch before finishing at the new Marlborough Convention Centre in Blenheim.
