In a boon for classic rallying, the CAMS Victorian, NSW and Queensland rally panels have joined forces to announce the East Coast Classic Rally Series for 2018. Seven events will form what is likely to become even bigger in 2019, with more events wanting to be involved. The 2017 events are:
  • April 14 – Oberon, NSW
  • May 5 – Mitta Mitta, Victoria
  • July 14 – Kyogle, NSW
  • August 11 – Batemans Bay, NSW
  • September 8 –- Bathurst, NSW
  • October 13 – Canberra, ACT
The seventh planned event at Coffs Harbour on November 17 is yet to be confirmed. Two other events will be nominated as back ups. They are:
  • June 16 – Bulahdelah, NSW
  • October 27 – Cooma, NSW
The series already has a very healthy PR budget and a launch video has already been produced (see above). Each event will be run as one or more heats, with multiple-heat events allowing teams to score series points for each heat completed, even if they DNF the other heat. Vehicles will run under CAMS Classic Rally Car classes C1 C2 C3 and C4, plus Club Rally Cars over 30 years old, ensuring almost any “classic” car that exists will be allowed to run. Run under CAMS Multi-Club permits, entry costs will be kept low and eligibility easy. Frontal head restraints and driving suits are highly recommended for all competitors, but not compulsory. Any crew who enters is eligible to score series points without having to register for the series. However, series registration is highly recommended to receive a supporters package that includes:
  • $20 discount per event
  • Guaranteed PR, including - on a Facebook page dedicated to the series - Promotion of each team as they register
  • Plus possible inclusion in the two videos that will be created for every event
  • And more (to be announced)

Several drivers have already announced their intention to compete in the series, including: Clay Badenoch, Neal Bates Tom Dermody, Bruce Garland, Ryan Smart, Michael O’Hagan “We have listened and run a heap of surveys to our customers,” said Brett Middleton, (NSW Rally Panel promotions). “This series will provide the events that are in demand by classic competitors.” The NSW Rally Panel has gained a lot of assistance from classic rally car owners such as Clay Badenoch and Tom Dermody, who have liaised with many teams to formulate this series. “These are exciting times for the sport,” said NSW Rally Panel Chairman John Sparkes. “Clay and Brett have been instrumental in bringing this series to reality and I hope many competitors will take advantage of the opportunity to get their classic cars into the forest for a full year of competition.” For more info see: http://www.rallynsw.com.au/rally/eccrs/ https://www.facebook.com/EastCoastClassicRallySeries/
