Volkswagen Motorsport has released a teaser image of their Polo GTI R5 car, due to compete later in 2018. Many people who helped develop the old championship winning Polo World Rally Cars are involved in this project, including Technical Director FX Demaison and Senior Project Engineer Gerard-Jan de Jongh, who worked as Sebastien Ogier’s race engineer.
“With the Polo GTI R5 we are hoping to transfer our expertise from four WRC titles to customer racing successfully, and offer a first-class racing machine for countless rally championships from national series to the WRC,” Volkswagen Motorsport Director Sven Smeets explained.
“Before the first race outing next year, we will subject the car to rigorous testing to make sure it is prepared for the extremely varied track conditions around the world.” Meanwhile, Proton’s specialist rally car constructor, MEM in Britain, report that their Iriz R5 project is soon due for FIA inspection of the final specification.
