This Saturday will see a feast of motorsport action when the East Gippsland Stages comes to the forests around Bairnsdale, Nowa Nowa and Bruthen in eastern Victoria.
Â
The event, the second round of the 2008 Victorian Rally Championship, starts in front of the Fire Station on Bairnsdale’s main Street at midday on Saturday, and will provide spectators with a chance to get up close to the 40 competing crews and their cars before they head into the forest for just over 100 km of flat out day and night competition.
In addition to seeing the cars at the start in Bairnsdale and at the service point in Nowa Nowa, spectators will get the opportunity to watch the cars in action at a number of exciting spectator points in the forests close by, before the event finishes at the Bairnsdale Racecourse at around 11pm.
Round 1 winner Darren Windus won’t be competing due to commitments at the Rally of Canberra so the event is wide open for a number of other top Victorian and interstate competitors to gain maximum points in their title race.
While the competition at the top of the field will be hot, there will also be lots of desperate driving from crews in the other categories such as the Classics and the hotly-contested Hyundai Excel class. For competitors and spectators alike, it should be a great event.
