A field of 40 competitors is expected, including CAMS Australian Rally Championship competitors Eli Evans and Glen Weston, for the Pyrenees Rush on August 27. The Leech’s Mitsubishi George Derrick Pyrenees Rush is Round 3 of the 2017 Focus on Furniture & Bedding Victorian Rally Championship, the OurAuto Rally Series, Fiesta Rally Series and Round 2 of the Victorian Noted Rally Series, promoted by Car Club RMIT Inc. The event is based out of the farming township of Avoca, approximately two hours north west of Melbourne. Starting in conjunction with the Avoca Riverside markets, competitors will depart in the morning making their way through a challenging course of eight special stages and 113 competitive kilometres of closed forest and shire roads. Three different vantage points have been designed to watch all the action, including the all new point at the Mount Avoca Winery where crews are required to perform a 'donut' around the ‘Eco-luxe Loop' bale, and then head over the two 'Leech’s Mitsubishi Power Jumps'. The Derrick, as it’s informally known as, has been Car Club RMIT premier calendared event with CAMS for over 45 years, making it one of the longest running rally events in Victoria with plenty of history behind it.
