Fifty motorsport enthusiasts with an intellectual disability will have the ride of their lifetime this Sunday at the Endeavour Foundation Ride Day at Ipswich Willowbank Autocross Track.
Great Endeavour Rally road boss and Straight On RallySport Principal, Jamie Lawson, is the event organiser.
"These guys are close to my heart and it is the very least we can do. Many Endeavour clients are unable to do a lot of the things we take for granted, like driving rally cars; although this is certainly not through lack of wanting,” Mr Lawson said.
“Giving up our time and cars for just one days allows us to give something back to our community and to people not as fortunate as we are. The Endeavour Foundation provides services for many people who have been injured by motor vehicle trauma, so it is fitting to have a day like this,” Mr Lawson continued.
“This is a great opportunity to promote safe and sensible driving in a controlled environment, while giving these guys a real buzz and a day they will remember,” Mr Lawson said.
Fifty-two year old Peter Dover has been supported by the Endeavour Foundations for 33 years and has an insatiable passion for cars and motorsport. The Endeavour Foundation Ride Day will fulfil Peter’s lifelong dream of travelling flat-out in a real life rally car.
The Endeavour Foundation Ride Day has been organised by some of Queensland's best rally teams as a special gift for the fifty South East Queensland Endeavour Foundation clients. Although the day is not a dedicated fundraising activity, rally teams will present a large cheque for two thousand dollars to the Endeavour Foundation.
Rally stars have cast their regular navigators aside to make room for Endeavour clients who will experience the feel of a real rally event. Endeavour clients will walk away feeling like kings of the mountain by days end, with every participant to be presented with an individual trophy.
The entire experience is being provided to Endeavour clients free of charge thanks to generous support from RACQ Insurance and Queensland Fuel Group.
