Luke Sytema and Adam Wright took out the Historic Rally Association’s Powerplay Rallysprint, held in wet and slippery conditions on June 28.

Driving a Ford Escort (pictured), the pair led home another Escort, that of Mike Conway and Jenny Cole, by 10 seconds after five stages.

Held near Yarck, the event was shortened from eight stages to five because of the inclement weather, which saw hardy officials and photographers having to brave just about everything nature could throw at them.

Australian Rally Champion Eli Evans was a late entry in the event, driving his Honda Civic Type R, and although he held second place, he retired after four stages with mechanical problems.

Third place went to the the father-son combination of Peter and Luke Whitten (Ford Escort), with the Datsun 1600 pairing of Shannon Fitcher and Callum Oakey fourth.

The top five was rounded out by another Escort, that of Stuart Lawless and Luke Simpson.

Nearly 40 cars started the popular event. Apart from Evans, the highest profile retirement was Darryn Snooks, who slide off the road into a tree, doing substantial damage to his Datsun Stanza.
