The Estonia Ministry of Culture has announced that “the organisers of the WRC series”, presumably the WRC Promoter, has approached the Shell Helix Rally Estonia with a proposition to hold a WRC candidate rally on July 12-14, 2019.
No other details were given, except to say that Euros 980,000 has been invested by the Ministry in organising the candidate event.
Information from WRC Promoter suggests that negotiations are still at an early stage and that this is too early for a Candidate event to be officially observed.
Rally Estonia was run as a round of the FIA European Rally Championship until 2016, and since then has been popular as a test event before the WRC Neste Rally in nearby Finland.
The rally moves between different towns in the country each day.
In recent years it has been held as a qualifying round of the FIA’s local European Rally Trophy, run over exceedingly fast gravel roads.
