European Rally Championship plans unsettled for 2018

Eurosport Events, the promoters of the FIA’s European Rally Championship, have confirmed they are unable to announce the full calendar for 2018 at this time. The sport’s premier regional series is intended to be an eight-round series like in 2017, run from late March till mid October, but so far only three events have been named and none in Central Europe. The first two events are to be Azores Airlines Rally, followed by another event in the Atlantic Ocean, the Rally Islas Canarias. The final round will again be the Rally Liepaja, in the Baltic country of Latvia. There is no news so far whether last year’s ERC events in Greece, Cyprus, Poland, Czech Republic and Italy will be run next year as qualifying rounds. More news is expected to be announced at the FIA’s World Motor Sport Council meeting on December 6th. The European Championship is rallying’s longest running activity, having been organised without a break for 65 years.
