The chase for the 2010 Rallyschool.com NSW Excel Rally Series will resume in Taree this weekend when competitors line up for the Rally of the Manning Valley.

The joint series leaders, NSW driver Dave Roberts and young Canberran, Adrian Coppin, will be there to press their respective claims to the coveted title.

A seasoned campaigner, Roberts is the current champion. The young usurper, Coppin, only started rallying last year but is already pressing his claim to the crown.

The last event was on home ground for Coppin and Roberts was committed to being an official, so this will be the first of many head to head contests over the remaining 4 rounds of the series.

Coppin won the last event in Canberra by over 1 minute.

“I was pretty happy. I hit a rock as I cut a corner in the second stage and the FSport/Total Traction Services Hyundai Excel drove like a bus for the rest of the event, resulting in an off-road excursion, so the result was very pleasing,” he said.

But this weekend will see Coppin starting a new event on roads he has never seen before.

“Dave is going to be hard to beat as he competed here last year and has a feel for the roads,” Adrian added.

The FSport/TTS Excel has been repaired and a new set of Kumho rally tyres fitted in preparation for the event. Despite his lack of experience, Adrian is optimistic and looking forward to the challenge.

“I’m not getting ahead of myself but the event in Canberra gave me a lot of confidence, so first I’ll finish and then we’ll add up the times and see,” Coppin said.
