The French gravel rally championship has announced a new event this year (29-30 June) to be known as the Terre du Haut Var. It will be run as the third round of the 2019 series, and will be run in the military camp of Canjuers, in the heart of the Var. This was the location for the legendary Mille Pistes Rally run in the late '70s and early ‘80s. This event was a popular international event in which prototype and non-homologated cars were admitted, at a critical period for rally car development.

The original Mille Pistes event was already very well known, its memory in the sport further cemented when Citroen named their budget level four wheel drive version of the Visa after the event. The event then gained further legendary fame as the FIA adopted the event’s time-saving recce schedule as a basis for saving costs for teams – and the chance to squeeze another event into the WRC calendar. Sebastien Loeb has announced that he hopes to compete on the event.
