Ex-RAF Tornado pilot and Cresta Run team captain Green has never been a stranger to speed, and in 1997 he became the first and only man to conquer the sound barrier on land. Aboard Richard Noble’s Thrust SSC, Green recorded an average speed of 763.035mph, whilst more recently he claimed a second land speed record piloting the world’s fastest diesel-powered machine to 350.092mph.
He will experience a very different type of speed however when he climbs aboard a Subaru Impreza WRC2008 on Sunday 13 July for a maximum throttle blast with works driver and championship front-runner Chris Atkinson.
Alan Davies, star of the British hit TV series Jonathan Creek and comedy quiz show QI, is also attending the Festival with the Subaru World Rally Team on Saturday 12 July. The comedian and TV star will sample the raw urgency and excitement of Subaru’s latest World Rally Car alongside showman and ex-World champion Petter Solberg.
“I’m really excited about Goodwood, and taking our brand new car there” said Petter Solberg. “It’s always been a big success, and we have some fun! We don’t have so much pressure of competition, so I can really show everyone a good time!”
Conducting six runs each day, Friday will see official test driver Markko Märtin at the wheel. Saturday is the turn of Petter Solberg, and Chris Atkinson climbs aboard on Sunday.
On an event that encompasses so much more than pure speed, the team have also pledged their support to the Richard Burns Foundation in honour of one of Subaru’s greatest World Champions, making a total of five charity runs for the cause.
