Ford's Marcus Gronholm sits in the lead in his home event, Neste Rally Finland, with a 47.2 second lead over current World Rally Champion Sebastien Loeb. Chasing his sixth win in seven years in his home event, Gronholm has so far done everything right, and with two stages still to run of Leg 2, he will be hoping to take his lead into the overnight break.
Chris Atkinson's wretched luck continued with a gearbox problem reducing him to only third gear, and after completing three stages he had dropped 13 minutes. After a gearbox change, he resumed the rally intent on moving back up the field. He currently sits in 13th place.
Atkinson's team-mate, Petter Solberg, was forced to retire on SS11 after he hit a rock face, causing his Subaru to spin and then roll. Solberg and co-driver Phil Mills both escaped unharmed, however their car suffered extensive damage.
