Steve Forsberg and Craig Whyburn, driving a Mitsubishi Lancer (pictured), won last weekend’s 'Trussme' National Capital Rally in Canberra – a round of the ACT Regional Rally Series.

The pair won the six stage rally by nearly two minutes from the Lancer Evo 6 of Michael and Thomas Barrett, with the classic Porsche 911 of Jeff David and Grant Geelan (the first two-wheel drive car home), in third place.

Peter Taylor was fourth in his ex-factory Group N (P) Toyota Corolla, with Australian Rally Commission chairman, Col Trinder, in the navagator’s seat, while Michael Fawcett and Kate Murphy rounded out the top five in a Lancer Evo 3.

The crowd-pleasing Ford Falcon XD ute of Peter Kobold and James Thornburn was sixth.

The event was also the fifth round of the New South Wales Rally Championship. Forsberg's win was the first in the championship, and leaves the title up for grabs heading into the final round in Coffs Harbour next month.

With Michael South suffering engine problems in the event, South's lead in the series has been reduced to just under 20 points. With 53 points up for grabs at Coffs Harbour, there's still everything to play for.
