Australian co-driver, Glenn Macneall, contested last weekend’s Rally Finland with Toyota Gazoo Racing Rally Challenge driver Hiroki Arai.

Arai and Macneall were contesting the WRC2 class and set competitive stage times, despite suffering from technical issues in their Ford Fiesta R5s.

The pair enjoyed a strong start to the rally, sitting in third position in the competitive WRC2 class on Friday evening. On Saturday they suffered from a problem with the turbo boost, which limited their speed and caused them to fall back to fifth place.

They remained there until the second stage on Sunday, when they went off the road after hitting a bump in a corner and could not continue.

“The pace was strong until we had some problems with the car,” Arai said.

“This season has been quite tough so far, there has always been something happening on the mechanical side or a mistake on my side. We need to change this routine and end the bad luck.

“Speed-wise it’s quite good, it’s just been hard to get the car to the finish.”

The WRC2 category was won by Finland’s Jari Huttunen in a Skoda Fabia R5, ahead of the similar car of Quentin Gilbert.
