Gaurav Gill has finished third on the recent Chennai Rally, the opening round of the 2019/2020 Indian Rally Championship.
It was also the debut of the Mahindra XUV300 R2.
His teammate Amittrajit Ghosh retired with front suspension failure.
Gaurav Gill's new Mahindra R2 on JK Tyres.
The cars were not yet prepared to full R2 spec as some parts were delayed due to customs clearance, meaning the cars ran a stock gearbox, upgraded engine tune and a slightly bigger turbo. The cars also did not have limited slip differentials.
After early set-up work, Gill was able to climb up to second place but dropped to third after being delayed on a stage by animals.
Gill ran with JK tyres and Ghosh with tyres from Mahindra’s traditional suppliers MRF Tyres.
Gill is planning three rounds in WRC2 in a new version Fiesta R5.
Event winner was VW driver Dean Mascarenhas.
