2006 Rally of South Australia winner, Steve Glenney, has denied rumours that he already had a contract in place to drive for Mitsubishi Ralliart Australia in 2007.

The rally rumour mill has been working overtime, with word that Glenney had already signed a contract to drive the second Lancer Evo 9 in this year’s ARC, but according to the South Australian, that is not the case.

“Yes, I have been in touch with them, but plenty of other drivers have as well,” Glenney told RallySport Magazine.

“I hope to do selected events in 2007, but like everyone else, I am still trying to raise enough funding for that as I can’t do it out of my own pocket.”

If Mitsubishi don’t run a factory team in 2007, Glenney was asked if driving one of their Evo 9s with his own funding was an option.

“I guess it would be, but to tell you the truth I haven’t even got that far down the track. Until I get a budget, it’s a pointless exercise,” he added.

If a program was to be forthcoming, Glenney is expected to compete in a mix of gravel and tarmac events.
