Team Mitsubishi Ralliart’s Evolution IX Lancer, driven by Warwick Rooklyn and Linda Long, was second fastest in the prologue for Targa West yesterday.

Sydney pair Rooklyn and Long clocked 3 minutes 26 seconds for the 4.9km prologue at a driving centre near Perth airport.

Dean Herridge and Bill Hayes in a Subaru Impreza WRX were a second quicker on 3m25s, while the Evolution VIII Mitsubishi Lancer of fellow West Australians Steve Jones and Ruari Soutar-Dawson was next quickest.

Drivers completing the top 10 were Paul Blackie in a Porsche 911, Tony Quinn in a Porsche 997, Kevin Weekes in a Lamborghini Gallardo, Peter Brock in a Daytona Coupe, Kim Ledger in a Porsche 911 GT3, Kevin Clifton in a Porsche 911 and Rob Herridge in a Subaru Legacy.

The three days of competition from today for the 85 cars entered comprises 227km in 30 stages on sealed roads in and around Perth.

Ross Dunkerton and Alan Stean won the first Targa West last year in an Evolution VIII Mitsubishi Lancer and are in an Evo IX this year. Dunkerton was only 17th quickest in the prologue.
