Jari-Matti Latvala looks set to abandon his World Rally Championship dreams and go historic rallying in 2021. The 35-year old Finn was dropped from the Toyota Gazoo Racing squad at the end of the 2019 season, but contested Rally Sweden in February in a privately run Yaris. It didn't go well though, with technical problems sidelining the car early in the event. Without a full-time seat in the WRC, Latvala is realistic enough to know that his days at the top of the sport may be over. "I have decided to concentrate (on) the Historic EM-series," Latvala told Finnish website rallit.fi "I'm not stopping the rally, but I have to be realistic in this situation and think about what I can drive. "I can’t afford to start raising more money," he said.

Latvala is no stranger to historic rally cars, having driven his own Audi Quattro on the Lahti Historic Rally on several occasions. "Next year I will focus by enjoying and driving in the historic European Championship series. I like to drive old cars and luckily you can find them at home," Latvala added. Latvala has recently been in trouble with the Finnish tax authorities which has taken his focus of rallying.
