WRC star Jari-Matti Latvala is in serious trouble with the Finnish tax authorities, who have confiscate real estate and cars belonging to the former factory Toyota driver. It really happened," Latvala confirmed to news outlet Ilta-Sanomat. "I have been confiscated of real estate and some cars by now. It came as a surprise to me and I am confused by such a decision. However, it is a routine decision in such a situation." The Finnish tax board believe that Latvala owes significant money in tax – suggested to be in the 5-6 million euro mark – from 2014 and 2015. Latvala moved to Monaco in 2009, however reports indicate the tax authorities believe he spends more time in his native Finland than he does in Monaco. "As I have mentioned before, the tax office has calculated the taxes for several years and made its own decision," Latvala said, adding that he has appealed the decision. "Although the dispute is still ongoing, I have done my best and paid the taxes so far to show my willingness to cooperate. That's why the tax office's move was such a surprise to me." Latvala is contesting only a limited number of WRC events this year, having been dropped from the main Toyota squad for 2020. The Finnish media have reported that he earned 1-1.5 million euros in 2019, plus bonuses.
