Following from their history-making finish in South Australia, Eli Evans and Glen Weston have grabbed another podium for Honda against the odds at the International Rally of Queensland.
Placing third outright and first in the two-wheel drive category, Evans and Weston showed the winning credentials of the Honda Civic Type R.
“It feels nice to put the Honda on the podium again,” Evans said.
The final stage of the rally was long and tough for the Evans Motorsport team, however the changes they made to the car on Saturday put them in good stead.
“The car was more settled over the rough stuff. It worked well and we could push on. We were a lot closer to Pedder‘s boys, which we weren’t yesterday.
“Every time we drive the Honda we move forward and we finished third on the podium today,” Evans said.
With their second podium in a row, the team was all smiles when they crossed the finishing line.
“It was a big relief,” Evans said. “I slowed down on the last stage, I was a bit hard on myself for it. The big picture is that we achieved what we wanted and another firm hand-shake at the end.”
The final round of the Australian Rally Championship takes place in Victoria in November and the team is looking forward to a home-ground advantage.
“We’ve got three months now to go right over the car and make sure it’s absolutely one hundred percent for our home event.
“I’d like to thank Honda for their support. It’s been a lot of fun and every time I get in this car I can’t stop smiling. It’s exciting for me and for the team,” Evans said.
The last round of the 2010 season will take place in Victoria on November 13 and 14.
