The organisers of this years’ Alpine Rally are delighted at the response received from potential competitors. At the closing date last week, there were 165 expressions of interest on event director Stuart Lister’s desk.
 There are 100 possible places in the event. Potential crews come from most states of Australia and the number of EOI’s indicates a huge level of interest for this form of gravel rallying.
The Alpine will have 420 kms of closed road competitive stages throughout the forest areas of East Gippsland and there will be plenty of opportunity for the public to spectate with nine locations provided over the weekend. There will be an all new spectator point at Forestech TAFE, just minutes from Lakes Entrance, featuring great viewing locations andcatering provided by the TAFE college.
Organisers estimate there will be around 3000 people in East Gippsland on the weekend of November 24 and 25 for the 2007 Alpine Rally. This will provide a huge boost to the local economy which is still recovering from the disastrous fires and floods of earlier this year.
Lakes Entrance foreshore will come alive at the ceremonial start on Saturday morning, November 24. Local Member of Parliament, Craig Ingram, will be on hand, together with East Gippsland Shire Councillors and other VIP’s to greet crews and flag cars on their way. Motorsport journalism icon, Max Stahl, will also be on hand to interview crews as they arrive at the start line.
