Factory Subaru driver, Ben Hunt, won all seven stages on his way to a comprehensive victory in the Nelson Rally in the south island of New Zealand on Saturday. Hunt and co-driver Tony Rawstorn (pictured below), who currently lie second in the New Zealand Rally Championship, took the win by nearly a minute and a half over second placed Josh Marston. Marston, however, had a battle on his hands at the wheel of his Holden Barina AP4. He eventually took second place by just 0.7 of a second from Garet Thomas' Subaru WRX. A trio of Mitsubishi Lancer Evolutions filled places fourth to sixth, with Richard Bateman leading home Brendon Hart and David Quantock. Back in a Ford Escort (below) after recent events in a newly-developed Volkswagen Golf GTi, Deane Buist was seventh and the first two-wheel drive car home. Buist was two and a half minutes ahead of the next best two-wheel drive car, that of second generation rally driver Jack Hawkeswood - son of reigning NZ Rally Champion Andrew. Former NZ champion, David Holder, drove a Ford Fiesta R2 as double zero car in the event as he ramps up his preparations for the next round of the Junior World Rally Championship in Finland. The rally was a round of the NZ Mainland Series. Full results from the Nelson Rally are available HERE. A full gallery of Geoff Ridder photos can be seen HERE.
