Following the success of the one-make Hyundai Rally Series in other states, the series is being launched in Queensland in 2008!

The official Excel Series season launch will be held at at Suncorp Stadium in Brisbane tomorrow, coinciding with the last Queensland home game of the regular 07/08 Hyundai A-League season.

Leading team drivers will be on hand to answer questions and give away merchandise. The car on display is one the Hyundai factory prepared and ran, with Sydneysider Mick Gillett being the regular driver. The car will be available from 3pm Sunday, and interviews with leading drivers also available from this time.

The one make series provides a level playing field for all competitors, making it ideal for both the novice and seasoned competitor alike. With bullet-proof cars and fierce competition, the series provides an excellent platform for those drivers wishing to make a career from rallying, and given the low cost, it’s also one of the most accessible forms of motorsport.

Queensland Automotive Parts and Motorsport Promotions business, GSL RallySport, is spearheading the introduction of the series locally.

“Having seen first hand the enormous coverage and enthralling battles that this unique format generates in other states, it was too good to ignore!” said GSL RallySport’s Greg Latham. “The series provides a unique opportunity to combine both great competition, and outright spectacle, whilst still maintaining its low cost appeal.”

The series also has support from both Hyundai, and Motorsport Solutions Australia, who have partnered the series in assisting competitors with the preparation, build and safety of their vehicles.

The series also has welcome support from Hyundai A-League team, the Queensland Roar, in promoting the series with its season launch at Suncorp Stadium.

The Excel series is contested over five rounds of the Queensland Rally Championship and is one of the most challenging in the country.
