Hyundai R5 suspension failures raise concerns

Two frightening suspension failures suffered on Hyundai R5 cars at the weekend’s Rallye International du Valais in Switzerland are being urgently investigated.   

Fabio Andolfi was one of two Hyundai i20 R5 drivers to suffer suspension failure on the weekend.They happened on the similar customer team cars of Fabio Andolfi and Olivier Burri, both leading to the cars going off the road at this mountainous rally.  

Hyundai Motorsport state:

“We are still in the first stages of investigating what went wrong.  It was a minor suspension component that failed on both cars that led to the drivers’ accidents.  

“It was not a part that we have experienced failures with during testing, or on the previous events with the car.

“This morning (Monday) we have begun to work both internally and with the supplier of the part to establish the reason for the failures, and to find a solution.  

“It was obviously very disappointing as Andolfi was on course to take the rally lead, according the split times at the time of his off.”
