More than thirty competitors will compete in what is now regarded as Australia’s richest and competitive one make car rally series at the traditional June long weekend Bega Valley Rally - the '2009 Hyundai World Rally Series Cup’. For 2009, teams will not only be competing for the national Hyundai title but for the prize pool on offer from both Hyundai and co-sponsor RaceBrakes Sydney.

The event has a strong history which dates back beyond the early 1970’s and this year's event will use three Shire roads north of the town before heading south of Eden for the forest stages. The Shire roads are a favourite amongst competitors with the fast and flowing stages giving teams the opportunity to stretch their legs on these magical roads, while down south the crews will use tight and twisty roads such as “Snake Track” which should really suit the nimble Hyundai’s.

Crews from NSW, Victoria, Queensland and South Australia will go head to head to determine Australia’s fastest Hyundai team at the Bega Valley Rally.

Whilst the 2008 Victorian and Queensland champions are no longer competing in their Excels, current NSW Champion, Mick Gillett, and co-driver, Harvey Smith, will be trying to make sure they bring home the trophy for Hyundai Motor Company Australia. The task ahead of them won't be easy, with fellow NSW competitors Stephen “Fro” Horobin and “Crazy Dave” Roberts both keen to get their hands on the trophy. Brothers Matt and Ben Cullen, who have been the pace setters in 2009 NSW series, will be keen to add another win after the recent success at the Rally of Lithgow.

The Victorian contingent will consist of Tony and Nikki Moore, all female crew Emma Cugley and Jo Robison, and John 'The Mayor' Carney all aiming to be there for the show. Queensland's Justin Sinclair and South Australia's David Marriner will also be there to fly the flags for their home states.

For the Hyundai crews the weekend will start with a get-together at local Hyundai dealer Momen Motors on the Saturday afternoon. Dealer Principal, Jim Cooksley, will again host the Competitors' BBQ, a function that he initiated in 2006 and is highly appreciated by the interstate crews.

The Bega Valley Rally will also form part of the NSW and Victorian State Championships, the ACT
Rally Series, the Victorian Hyundai Series and the Racebrakes Sydney Excel Rally Series. Crews will compete over 135km of competition roads made up of 8 special stages.
