After a strong third place in the VRC round at Bega earlier this year, the International Motorsport Solutions-sponsored WRX STI of Robison Motorsport used the extended break to iron out the niggling ignition issues that has plagued the team for 12 months. After much frustration the problem was finally solved by the ever-resourceful Tom Robison and Craig McCallum.

This gave the brother and sister combination of Jesse and Sam Robison a new confidence boost going into the Akademos Rally several weeks ago. The Saturday prior to the event was utilised to complete several passes of the route in recce, allowing the crew to gain more pace noting experience, particularly in preparation for the Rally of Melbourne.

The teams were greeted with glorious sunshine on the Sunday morning of the event, a vast contrast to the snow and rain from the previous year. After settling into a comfortable rhythm right from the start of the first stage, Sam and Jesse worked mainly on keeping the car straight, mindful of the fact that the Rally of Melbourne was just weeks away.

Service was uneventful for the crew of Craig Sutton, Tom Robison and Craig McCallum, with just the usual spanner check and refuel all that was required. In fact, the service crew even had time to wash the car in preparation for the all-important final stages.

With service completed, Jesse and Sam headed out with the intention of taking it easy in a bid to conserve the car. To their surprise they won two of the last four stages, finishing second outright to Justin Dowel and Matt Lee. The team were naturally very pleased with their performance, and pleased that a niggling problem that saw the ignition cutting out had been rectified.
