The inaugural South Coast Classic Rally has been run and won by the Master-class crew of Bruce Smith and John Henderson.

This tightly contested event was run on May 19 & 20 by the Classic Rally Club (NSW). It started at Moss Vale on the Saturday, with an overnight stop at Batemans Bay before moving on to Sutton Forest via Bungendore on the second day.

The cool weather over the weekend was perfect for the thirty-two classic cars. Recent bad weather had brought a cold westerly wind which removed the thick fog that was threatening to make life difficult for the competitors.

After a hearty breakfast provided by the Moss Vale RFS, competitors toured the Southern Highlands using roads providing the best views around Robertson. Lunch was held at the fantastic Kangaroo Valley Golf and Country Resort.

The second division gave the competitors a real challenge which saw the whole field in the navigation categories being caught going into an out of bounds area and only one competitor managed to get a correct board near Nowra. Fortunately all of the competitors managed to find their way to Batemans Bay for a dinner at the local Bowling Club.

Sunday morning saw the competitors up early for an eight o’clock start. They first travelled down beside the Moruya River, then back up to Batemans Bay before heading along the Kings Highway to Bungendore. This was followed by another difficult navigation section with an almost impossible map trace that most of the field managed to find. At great BBQ lunch was provided by the Bungendore Rotary Club.

The final leg to Sutton Forest had another navigational challenge at Goulburn before heading to Bungonia, Bundanoon and then to the Sutton Forest Inn and Bistro to discuss the rally.
