Following on from the success of the 2009 Series, the 2010 Series is looking well supported again with a number of Drivers and Navigators registering their interests early.
A few crews to keep an eye out for in the first event will be Darren & Scott McGuire in their immaculately presented Datsun 1600, Tim & John Joass in their mighty little Holden Gemini and John Bermingham in the giant killing Datsun Sunny.
“These three crews are the favourite for outright rookie positions in this event” says Series Co-Coordinator Jamie Neale. “But as we saw last year, it’s not outright speed that will get you the win, it’s consistency. The outright winner of last years Rookie Series, Anthony Campbell, had some issues at some of the events, however when the car was running well he managed to set some pretty fast stage times to help him gain more points overall then some of his more fancied rivals. That is the key, to finish first, first you must finish!”
The Rookie Series crews will tackle the 3 stages, each being run three times making a total distance of nearly 70Km’s competitive. They will be trying to score maximum points based on the Rookie Series Point Score structure.
“The Point Score structure not only rewards crews for their overall result but also fastest stage time for Rookie Series registered entries. An added incentive is the 10 bonus points for completing the event without a “maximum time” penalty for either not starting or failing to finish a stage.” Added Jamie Neale.
Thanks to the generous sponsorship from Race Brakes Sydney, the top three crews based on their finishing position in the Outright Event Classification will also receive prize money:-
• 1st Place Rookie Driver/Co Driver $250
• 2nd Place Rookie Driver/Co Driver $150
• 3rd Place Rookie Driver/Co Driver $75
