As predicted the first round of the Albion Motorsport Sprintmaster organised by Northern Districts Sporting Car Club at the Hirstglen Motorsport Complex provided some very stiff competition.

The event took place over eight stages during the day and night with most crews, both outright and in classes, separated by only seconds.

The outright and 4WD honours went to Erik Johnsson and Erin Kelly (pictured) in their Lancer Evo VI followed by Shaun Gill and Ivan Voevodin with Paul Andrews and Marty Penfold in third. The three contenders were separated by a mere 24 seconds.

The over 2ltr class went down to the wire with only two seconds between winners Dan and John Gibson and second place getters David Ovenden and Cate Kelly. The Wedding’s Datsun 1600 had another excellent drive to finish first in the 1600-2000cc class ahead of Keith Fackrell’s BDA Escort.

Tony Scott and Debbie Dillon just pipped Jeff Kilbride and Mark Malpas by only seven seconds in the battle for the 0-1600cc class. The two small car class Toyota Corollas also proved to be the cars to beat in the outright 2WD honours taking first and second place.

The ladies class was taken out by the Acworth, Mossman crew in their beautiful Subaru Liberty.
