The 21year old from Invercargill was launched onto the rallying scene after becoming a finalist in the Rally New Zealand Rising Stars Scholarship, and while not pocketing the $50,000 prize, Holder walked away from the weekend with confidence and contacts that set him in good stead for his upcoming events.
Armed with this experience, Holders’ focus turned to developing the skills needed to make it to the top level of rallying. His career kicked off to a great start with the Canterbury Rally in June , driving a Toyota Levin 2wd car with his brother James in the co-drivers seat, Holder improved with every kilometer and finished with a solid 3rd place in class.
With one under his belt Holder headed to last weekend’s Catlins Coast Rally, this time with his sister Rachel looking after the co-driving. With the goal of continued learning, the team exceeded everyone’s expectations setting some very quick times amongst experienced competition and they walked away with a very strong 2nd in class for the weekend.
Topping off this result Holder also received the Monit Rally Computers Novice Driver Award for the fastest driver having completed in less than 3 events.
“I’m stoked to have stepped up the pace at Catlins, I’m learning with every event and am loving it. We’re looking to move onto pacenotes for the next one which will add a to the learning curve, but I’m up for it so bring it on”
The teams’ next event is likely to be the Rally of Nelson in August, with a two day rally and pacenotes the event will be another tall challenge for Holder, but you can guarantee that it’s a challenge he can rise above.
