Citroen's departure from the WRC was not unexpected, and the results of the decision will reverberate through the service park.  The team's number two driver, Esapekka Lappi, who signed with Citroen for this season, has said he is already looking at his options on social media.

"I'm not going to lie, this is very bad news for me, for us and whole rally family," he said.

"I feel sorry for the staff and the fans. But no can do."

"Work has started to find other seat for next years. Not much time but I have a good and strong team around me."

The Finn signed a deal with Citroen which included 2020, but the departure leaves him without a drive.

Lappi won in Finland in 2017, and struggled early on in the C3 WRC before achieving some stronger results in the latter half of the season, scoring two of his three podiums.

Lappi's teammate, six-time champion Sebastien Ogier, is set to sign with Toyota.
