Former World Rally Championship driver Alister McRae will head to Adelaide once again this December to take part in the Adelaide Rally. McRae will be attending courtesy of Eblen Subaru and will pilot a new Subaru WRX STI in the iconic World Rally Blue paintwork. The names McRae and Subaru have been synonymous with rallying since the 1990s when the marque dominated the sport at the hands of Alister’s brother, the late Colin McRae, who won the World Rally Championship three times in a row in the Subaru Impreza. Alister’s own connection to Subaru began in 1991, in a Liberty RS at the Rally of Great Britain. In the same event in 1998, he drove a works Subaru alongside his brother in a one-off appearance. A former British and Asia Pacific Rally Champion, McRae took part in the Prima Tour category of the 2018 Adelaide Rally. This year he will again take part in the one-day Prima Tour on Thursday December 5, and in the Main Tour category on the Friday. McRae’s car for this event is the 2019 Subaru WRX STI Premium, the latest iteration of the legendary machine. The new model’s 2.5-litre turbocharged boxer engine delivers 221kW of power and 407Nm of torque to all four wheels, a recipe for fun in the tight and twisting roads of the Adelaide Hills and Fleurieu Peninsula. Subaru fans will have a smorgasbord of cars to ogle across the event as the ex Ari Vatanen 555 Subaru WRX, first raced in Finland in 1993, will be competing in the event along with top interstate rally teams running the Subaru WRX product for outright honours. The public will get a chance to see Alister McRae along with other notable drivers such as 1980 F1 champion Alan Jones and Supercars drivers James Courtney, Jack Perkins, Tim Slade and Todd Hazelwood at the Amadio Wines Gouger Street Party on December 6 from 5:30pm.
