Perth-based New Zealander, Mike Young, has taken a heart-stopping win in the second round of the Western Australia Rally Championship, the Forest Rally. Driving a borrowed Subaru Impreza WRX from Maximum Motorsport, Young and co-driver Scott Beckwith completed a come-from-behind victory by the incredibly small margin of just 0.5 of a second. Reigning champions, John O'Dowd and Toni Feaver, had held a 2.4 second lead heading into the final 17km stage, but Young pulled out all the stops to win the final stage by 2.9 seconds. Third place went to co-driver turned driver Ben Searcy in a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 9. Craig Rando was fourth in a Subaru, with Nic Box winning the 2WD category in his Nissan Silvia, in fifth place. Third generation rally driver, Max McRae, seeded 25th, put in an impressive drive in his Ford Fiesta and finished in 11th place. The final stage was cancelled for much of the field after an accident. Results from the Quit Forest Rally are available HERE. Full report to follow.
