Set up gremlins have caused a late vehicle change for Eli Evans and Glen Weston heading into the second round of the CAMS Australian Rally Championship® (ARC) in Western Australia this weekend.
Despite the team working around the clock to get the Mini Cooper AP4 ready for its Australian debut at the Make Smoking History Forest Rally, time was not on their side as they waited for parts to arrive.
“We’re still working on the tune of the Mini; basically we need some new injectors as currently the car is only capable of producing about 70% of the power that it should but the new parts didn’t arrive in time for us to get the car over to Western Australia,” Evans said.
“Luckily for us Racetorque had the Peugeot available to keep our Championship hopes alive,” he added.
“While I would have loved to be out there in the Mini I’m looking forward to driving the Peugeot again now that I have some good kilometres under my belt in the car. We will be able to make some small set up changes and hopefully gain some more pace to keep the pressure on Harry (Bates), Molly (Taylor), Nathan (Quinn) and the other guys up the front” he continued.
With the event now just days from getting underway, competitors, their families and officials are heading to the Busselton region where the event is set to inject all important dollars into the local economy over the next four days.
“The Forest Rally has been a part of the sporting calendar in WA for more than 30 years and continues to attract strong participation from national crews, as well as bringing spectators to this great part of Australia. This adds up to significant economic benefits for local businesses, with the flow on effect from team and visitor spending,” Forest Rally Clerk of Course Ross Tapper said.
“Aside from the economic benefits the Forest Rally brings we truly feel like we are now part of the wider Busselton and Nannup community and love to involve them at all levels, be it competing, officiating or spectating,” he continued.
More than 50 crews from across Australia will contest the Make Smoking History Forest Rally through the forests of Nannup and around the electric Trade Hire Busselton Super Special Stage under lights around the Busselton foreshore.
The event is the second round of both the CAMS Australian Rally Championship and the CAMS Onslow Contracting WA Rally Championship.
