Warren Lee and David Lethlean have taken a convincing victory in the Mt Porepunkah Rallysprint, held near Bright in north east Victoria on Saturday.

Driving a Mitsubishi Lancer Evo 2, the improving Lee took a 22 second victory in the eight stage, 64km event, heading home the Lancer Evo 6 of father and daughter, Craig and Carrie Morris.

Dry conditions had the roads up and down Mt Porepunkah in perfect condition, with competitors enjoying the event, which began with a one-pass reconnaissance of the route before the first stage.

Brian Semmens/Dan Parry (Nissan 200 SX) and Geoff Portman/Steuart Snooks (Holden Commodore) were equal third, while Dane and Nathan Berry rounded out the top five in their newly built Lancer Evo 4.

Lancer Evo 2 driver John Austin and co-driver Greg Day were on target for third place, but incurred a penalty after hitting a chicane on a fast downhill section of SS3. Four other crews also received a penalty for the same indiscretion.

Brendan Brown and Andrew Bell retired on SS2 after leaving the leaving the road and hitting a tree in their Datsun 180B SSS, while Phil Hurle and Rachel Hale blew an engine in their Escort, but not before completing sufficient stages to be classified as finishers.

In its fourth year, the event was run by the North Eastern Car Club, under the direction of Ralph Scalzo.
