The four-time World Rally Champion won his titles consecutively for Mitsubishi (1996-1999), and has been invited by rally organisers to perform exhibition runs around the Harju super special stage.

While he has since gone on to head Toyota Gazoo Racing;s effort in the WRC, Makinen is still commonly associated with the Mitsubishi marque, where he achieved his greatest successes as a driver.

The Lancer Evolution has been one of the most popular and successful cars in rally events all around the world.

Makinen drove the Lancer Evo 3 to his first WRC title in 1996 after driving and developing the car for the majority of 1995.

While developing the car, he managed to finish second in the Asia-Pacific Rally Championship.

In his first WRC-winning season in the Evo 3, he won five rallies and took 70 stage wins before it was super-seeded by the Evo 4 for the beginning of 1997.
