Multiple New Zealand Rally Champion, Richard Mason, was back in action last weekend, winning the Tokamaru Rallysprint in a Subaru Impreza. With his wife Sara co-driving, Mason finished the five runs with a time of 12 minutes and 31.05 seconds, 16 seconds quicker than Gilmour and new co-driver Malcolm Peden. While Mason has been absent from the rally scene for some time, it was also the first time in nearly 12 months that Gilmour had driven her Suzuki Swift. The rallysprint was based at Whanganui, south of Hamilton on NZ’s north island. Forty-three entries were received.

William Menzies finished third, Mason Grimmer was fourth, and Gareth McLachlan fifth. The event wasn’t without its dramas, with Marty Bertelsen crashing his Toyota Corolla and finishing a long way off the road. Fortunately the car took the impact well, although his co-driver, Len Fisher, was transported to hospital with a hand injury. Results are available HERE.
