FIA Rally Director, Yves Matton, says he's still optimistic that they will find a World Champion in 2020, despite the mounting event cancellations. “With all the information we have for the moment, we will have between four and five events before the end of the year," Matton said. "Mainly all organizers are working normally. I don’t say that it’s easy and, for sure, there are some different constraints from one (organiser) to another." Finland and New Zealand are the latest WRC rallies to be cancelled, following a number of rounds earlier in the season. The next scheduled event is Rally Turkey, but not until late September.

Rally Turkey's rough gravel roads are the next scheduled WRC event.

“We are working closely with all the events and the promoters on a weekly basis to try to help them as much as possible to achieve their work. "For me, there is no sign that we will not be able to do four or five events before the end of the year," Matton added. “There are still a lot of question marks on a lot of things, but what I know is that they are working, they are sending us information and things are going on, but for sure the constraints are high. “When you have some events that are between now and four months it’s difficult for them to have 100% of the information they need, but they continue to work and submit to us the information we need to achieve with them the running of the event.”
