Alister McRae will give the Toyota Super 2000 its World Rally Championship debut on December’s Rally Great Britain. The deal will also mark McRae’s return to the RED World Rally Team, for the first time since he came within an whisker of winning the 2004 Production Car World Rally Championship title.

McRae will test the Toyota for two days prior to the Cardiff-based event, as the team develops a set up for the car with Proflex suspension, which up until now has only competed in the South African Rally Championship.

"It's very exciting to be involved in a new project like this. Obviously, I’m looking forward to driving again and it’s great to be working with RED again," McRae said.

The livery of the car for Rally GB is yet to be finalised as sponsorship agreements for the team are still under negotiation.

Team principal Neil Gatt is delighted to be launching the car on the world stage on his home round of the World Championship.

“It's our home event,” he said, “and working with a manufacturer of Toyota’s stature is where we want to be at. We are very proud to be giving the car its WRC debut, especially with Alister at the wheel, co-driven by Gordon Noble. It marks another significant step for RED and it’s a very exciting one.”
