Mitsubishi Motors Australia Ltd has appointed Mr Richard Emery its Project Manager responsible for its relationship with associate company Ralliart as well as MMAL’s Motorsport Manager.

Mr Emery has been in the motor industry 20 years, and since joining MMAL in 2002 has held the positions of Marketing Manager and, for the past two years, Regional Manager, South Australia and Northern Territory.

In addition to his new Ralliart and motorsport roles, Mr Emery retains his position as MMAL’s Regional Manager for SA and NT.

MMAL President and Chief Executive Officer, Mr Robert McEniry, said Mr Emery has been involved for the past year with sales of the legendary Lancer Evolution IX, and this combination of experience and enthusiasm will ensure the maximum benefit is achieved for Mitsubishi and its customers as the Company goes forward with its exciting product plans.

“Motorsport is part of the DNA of Mitsubishi,” Mr McEniry said. “We have been involved in off-road racing and rallying, both globally and in Australia, for decades. We have been very successful in the past, and we are working hard to ensure that we are successful in the future.

“Motorsport has a two-fold benefit for Mitsubishi. It gives a personality to the brand and individual products, and helps prove the reliability and durability of components and products in the heat of battle. Pajero and Lancer have been at the vanguard of this development for over 20 years.

“As more of our new products are Ralliart-branded the synergy between Ralliart and motorsport becomes more obvious, and Richard is charged with developing this relationship between ourselves, our specialist dealer network and our customers.”

Mr Emery said Mitsubishi and Ralliart have enjoyed a long and fruitful relationship and there is great scope for the companies to work even more closely together to achieve greater success.

“The relationship between MMAL and Ralliart in Australia goes back about two decades, and I am keen to build on that history going forward. With the raft of new product coming shortly we are now entering a new era for both of us in Australia, and they are exciting times,” Mr Emery said.

Motorsport is at the heart of Mitsubishi’s brand values and Melbourne-based Team Mitsubishi Ralliart this year is fielding Evolution IX Lancers in selected tarmac events - Targa Tasmania, Rallye Burnie and Targa West - as well as the NEC Australian Rally Championship’s gravel events.

Mr Emery said he will fully assess TMR’s motorsport program with Team Principal Alan Heaphy, in coming months and had already arranged a meeting with the Chairman of the Australian Rally Commission (ARCom), Mr Garry Connelly, ahead of next month’s Rally of South Australia regarding the direction and future of rallying in Australia.

Mr Emery will accompany Team Mitsubishi Ralliart at this weekend’s Safari Tasmania, the fourth round of the ARC.
