The decision by Citroen to change the plan to enter C3 R5 cars on next week’s Neste Rally Finland was taken because of changes reported to be necessary for the aero design at the front of the car. Mads Ostberg has been reported as saying: “It was part of the plan to do the event, but we are not ready. We need a lip, this would help to stop the nose from lifting, the car would fly better.” The only Citroen R5s on the event are two DS3 R5s for private drivers. Ostberg has driven on the event for the last 12 times. Then came news of penalties being imposed for irregularities on two of the four C3 R5s at the Rally di Roma Capitale. Russian driver, Alexey Lukyanuk, was penalised one minute, enough to deprive him of the chance of victory, because the right side wheelbase was 3mm too long. Spanish lady, Emma Falcon, was penalised 30 seconds as the left side wheelbase was 5mm too long.
